SUMMARY:At the summit with Bolivia's cholitas escaladoras talk
DESCRIPTION:Screening of the documentary film “Cholitas\,” which recounts this group of women’s ascent to the summit of Aconcagua\, the highest mountain in the Americas. The film will be followed by a conference to discuss the initiative of these guardians of the mountain in greater detail and share Tanya Lecuyer’s experience of climbing Huayna Potosí (6\,088 m) alongside them last September. \n\nThe Cholitas escaladoras of Bolivia are Aymara women who love high-altitude sports. They have carved out a place for themselves in a predominantly male sector and are following their path as cooks and guides\, with the dream of telling their story to the world\, inspiring those around them\, and training more women to become mountain guides. They carry messages of women’s empowerment and mountain protection to the highest peaks. \n\nCette activité s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une levée de fonds pour les appuyer: il sera possible de faire un don\, et Tanya viendra également avec de l’artisanat qu’elles ont fabriqué qui sera en vente.

SUMMARY:Talk with Ça me dit de grimper
DESCRIPTION:Climbing Over Obstacles: Using Climbing as a Tool for Growth and Transformation\n\n\n\nClimbing as a Tool for Personal and Social Development. The organization Ça me dit de grimper has taken on the challenge of using climbing as a means for personal and social growth\, while also striving to make this discipline accessible to individuals in socially vulnerable situations. During this conference-discussion\, we will revisit the key stages of the project’s development and delve into its clinical programming by participating in a hands-on workshop focused on emotional safety. We will also showcase the significant potential of climbing as a tool in interventions\, supported by scientific research conducted in Quebec.Finally\, an intimate sharing session will provide an opportunity to reflect on the role climbing plays in our lives. \n\n\n\nÇa me dit de grimperA collective project led by women launched in 2020\, this women-led initiative focuses on the opportunities climbing provides to develop new coping strategies. Its mission is to support individuals aged 12 and older who face various challenges—behavioral\, addiction-related\, mental health\, judicial issues\, or stemming from disadvantaged family backgrounds—by using climbing as a means of outdoor intervention. \n\n\n\nFor speakers Joanie Brière\, Stéphanie St-Amour Bélanger\, and Valérie Arrelle\, climbing is far more than just a sport. Over time\, their shared passion has evolved into a powerful tool for personal and social development—first for themselves\, and then for others. Climbing has become a medium for fostering connection\, self-improvement\, and even social reintegration for those in need. They will share the passion that drives their work with Ça me dit de grimper\, highlighting how they use climbing as a means to inspire and support others on their journeys. \n\n\n\nWhat are the talks at Zéro Gravité ? \n\n\n\nMoments of storytelling\, knowledge sharing\, personal anecdotes\, and exploration—our monthly talk sessions are back at Zéro Gravité\, held one Friday a month. SUMMARY:Talk with Antoine Dagorne
DESCRIPTION:Talk and discussion with Antoine Dagorne: the Keys to Success in Climbing : from technic to mental optimization \n\n\n\nWhen it comes to climbing training\, people often (and mistakenly) focus solely on the physical aspects. Yet climbing is a complex discipline that requires a wide range of skills\, often misunderstood\, especially by beginner or intermediate climbers. \n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, we will begin by defining climbing as a whole to better grasp its specificities. \n\n\n\nNext\, we will examine the key factors of climbing performance\, analyzing them across various disciplines: bouldering\, sport climbing\, and speed climbing\, as well as different performance approaches (onsight\, flash\, and redpoint).Finally\, we will emphasize the importance of targeted training for each performance factor\, enabling athletes to reach their full potential. \n\n\n\nAntoine Dagorne\, private climbing coach : \n\n\n\nWith extensive experience in climbing and a Master’s degree in sports physiology and biomechanics\, Antoine is well-equipped to assist climbers in rapidly progressing and achieving their climbing goals. Drawing upon his expertise in training science\, Antoine possesses the knowledge necessary to effectively guide you. His coaching experience ensures a pragmatic approach tailored to your specific needs. \n\n\n\nWhat are the talks at Zéro Gravité ? \n\n\n\nMoments of storytelling\, knowledge sharing\, personal anecdotes\, and exploration—our monthly talk sessions are back at Zéro Gravité\, held one Friday a month. SUMMARY:Talk with Nathalie Fortin : from 4000 m to 8848 m
DESCRIPTION:Talk with Nathalie Fortin : from 4000 m to 8848 m \n\n\n\nNathalie Fortin often receives many questions after her high-altitude expeditions: “You must have been in amazing shape after Everest with all those red blood cells!” or “Why did you use fixed ropes when descending Everest?” During this talk\, she will share her firsthand experiences on various mountains around the world (Alaska\, South America\, France\, Kyrgyzstan\, Nepal\, Pakistan\, the Canadian Rockies\, and Russia). She will discuss the unique challenges of climbing mountains at different altitudes\, including effects on the body\, preparation\, and lessons learned. This will be a relaxed evening—no exact science\, just the shared experiences of each person’s journey. \n\n\n\nNathalie Fortin\, mountaineer and speaker : \n\n\n\nNathalie began climbing in 1992 and ventured into mountaineering in 1996 in the Canadian Rockies. An engineer by training and an environmental project manager for the federal government\, she has summited peaks worldwide\, from the 4\,000-meter mountains in Western Canada to the summit of Everest (8\,848 m). Her mountaineering journey led her to guide expeditions on Mount Elbrus in Russia in 2014 and on Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan\, reflecting her desire to help others push beyond their limits. Nathalie shares her expertise and passion through motivational talks at schools and companies\, and she participates in various media and community events. She is actively involved in the climbing community\, especially in supporting women as they take on their first ice climbing and dry tooling experiences\, empowering them to become self-sufficient. She founded the Facebook group “Des femmes et des lames\,” which helps women connect with partners for these pursuits. An annual award in her name is given to a woman who has made a significant impact through her ascents and commitment to the climbing community. Recognized as a leading figure in ice climbing and mountaineering in Quebec and Canada\, Nathalie is an inspiring role model for many mountain enthusiasts.

SUMMARY:Talk with Céline Hequet\, Sociologist
DESCRIPTION:The Ant Trap: How Women are Drawn into the Climbing Subculture Only to Find Themselves Stuck at Its Bottom Rungs \n\n\n\nCéline Hequet explores a climbing counterculture where enthusiasts adopt a minimalist lifestyle\, breaking away from capitalist norms. However\, this culture\, predominantly male since the 1950s\, often reinforces gender stereotypes. Her talk sheds light on how male superiority remains valued in the heterosexual climbing community. \n\n\n\nIn the yoga studioFree talk\, on booking \n\n\n\nAbout Céline Hequet : \n\n\n\nOriginally trained in ecosystem biology\, I almost became an ornithologist. Confronted with the futility of conducting yet another study suggesting that we should perhaps start cutting down fewer forests\, I took a leap into social sciences. After a rather dry master’s in economic sociology of the environment\, I reconnected with the pleasure of spending time in the forest\, this time conducting an ethnography of the climbing subculture as part of my PhD in sociology at McGill University. \n\n\n\nLearn more : https://mcgill.academia.edu/C%C3%A9lineHequet \n\n\n\nWhat are the Talks? \n\n\n\nThese are moments of storytelling\, knowledge sharing\, histories\, and explorations. The monthly talks return to Zéro Gravité every Friday evening. After a time of listening\, there is a discussion on the chosen subject. Everyone is welcome in the yoga studio at Zéro Gravité.
